Canford International Netball Club

History and Achievements Overview:

Canford Netball Club was formally known as BEAVERS INTERNATIONAL NETBALL Club until March of 2002BEAVERS was originally formed with the concept of enabling players the opportunity to travel away from the local area to play a higher level of Netball and to give all ages a chance to play under very professional standards. This concept is adhered to, to this day.

·        1981, The Club was formed.  Sponsored by Renwick Travel with Club colours of Green and Golden yellow . The Club boasted a Senior section , U21, U16 - the minimum age being 12 years old.

·        1982, To continue to raise funds to travel, the first Invitation Tournament was held.

·        1985, the founder member Betty Hardy died, the Club was taken on in September of that year by Chris [coach] and Shirley Neal.  All club players trained at Talbot Combined School.

*        Touring is the main attraction to the club and still is to this day, we have been to Malta, Germany, Belgium, Jersey, Guernsey, etc.

*        Won the Dorset County League - until it ceased.

*        Played the West Region League with early good results but due to a lack of funds and heavy travelling expenses, the Club withdrew.

*        Seniors always entered National Competitions around the country, with good results.

*        U21’s has always entered the Barclays Bank sponsored National Tournament, and competed at a very high level.

·        1986, Senior Club players entered by invitation from Poole League 1st Division. They finished in second place at their first attempt and in the latter years have gone on to win the League on many occasions.

·        1988, the U21’s were also entered in the Poole League Division 2 which they won and were promoted to Division 1.

*        A team was entered to play the Bournemouth League and worked their way up through the Divisions, eventually playing in the Premier League gaining several second places over the years.

·        1992, with the assistance of East Dorset District Council [EDDC] started the Junior Club section.  Training was held at Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre.

·        1999, moved to Ferndown Middle School where we currently train [winter only].

*        The Seniors train at Canford School Sport throughout the year [indoors] and the Year 10s from the Junior section are now invited to train with the Senior players.  These young players are now representing the Club in the Poole League Division 2.

*        The Club have a policy to train their own Coaches and Umpires.  We have on average, five Coaches and six Umpires - this however is not enough to sustain a Club of our size, especially as we continue to grow in numbers due to its popularity, therefore, we would be looking to train moreClick to Enlarge.. Tanya with the rest of the winning team.. in the near future.  We can also boast that many of our players have or are currently playing for the Dorset County Squads and have the potential to go a lot further...

·        2002, In the spring of this year the club changed its name to CANFORD NETBALL CLUB, this year had many changes due to the large cash injection into the club….. this went a long way to see the club grow and put it back at the top of the league.

* since this time Canford Netball senior team has gone on to will the league each season

Progrip Netball Club

History:

Progrip was formed in 1996, but were then called “Seven Up”.  Caroline Smith (now Pastecchia) and Jo Kelly had been playing for another team which had folded and so in order to keep playing decided to set up their own team.Click to enlarge

Obviously the team has changed  since it started but there's still, Caroline Stedman, Caroline Pastecchia & Jo Kelly originally from the very first side.  Over the last couple of years Progrip brought a few new players in, one being Tanya Knowlton and as a team with Tanya in place, we just seem to have “clicked”, and had won some trophies & Tournaments!

Progrip started off in Division 8 and stayed there until 1998/9 when they gradually started to creep our way up to Division 4/5 where we are now, positioned up the top of the table.

In 1998 one of the players (Karen Cook) got sponsorship from a company called “Progrip” and so this is where and why the team is named.

2002 - 2003 Progrip one every match except one in the Winter league, won the VERSATILITY TOURNAMENT, 3rd in the the American Tournament and 1st in the Summer League........ Tanya left in the Summer of 2004 to go to Winchester University....
